Prerequisite: World Literature

This course will provide a comprehensive survey of literature from the Americas. Students will examine the mythological, philisophical, historical, cultural and artistic elements of North, Central, South America from the 17th century to the 21st century. Abundant practice in language arts skills including reading comprehension, literary analysis, and research will prepare the students for higher-level work in language arts. The course contents will require extensive writing of various forms, including essays, dialogues, journals, and creative expressions. In cooperation with American Studies, students will examine the effects of political, geographical, economic, and social systems on the literature of the Americas.
