(Y) Credits 1.0 Course Numbers 51501 and 51511 Prerequisite: None This two-year course promotes oral and written communication skills, and a respect for the English literary heritage, while providing complementary international perspectives through the study of World Literature. Students will develop and practice their powers of expression and the skills involved in writing and speaking in a variety of styles and situations. Students will study a range of literary works of different periods, genres, styles and contexts. Students will explore ways of approaching and studying literature, leading to the development of an understanding and appreciation of the relationships between different works. Students develop the ability to engage in close, detailed analysis of written text. IB Final Assessment: External - a written commentary, a written essay, a World Literature essay, and a three-hour written examination at the conclusion of the two years; Internal - taped oral commentary and presentation.
