Prerequisite: Microeconomics

In this two-year course, study will focus on markets and resources (including market failure and alternatives to the market system), objectives of firms, unemployment, inflation, and money and government policy. Students will apply the economic principles they have learned to international markets, and analyze the economic as well as the political and social implications of foreign trade. Students develop a rational and unbiased ability to evaluate economic theories, concepts, situations, and data. Students acquire international perspectives that feature a respect for and understanding of the interdependence and the diversity of economic realities in which individuals, organizations and societies function.

Particular emphasis will be placed upon the economics of developing countries. This is an excellent class for students who enjoy economics, business, the stock market, and government.

IB Final Assessment:

External - Three examinations totaling 4 hours;
Internal - Portfolio of eight commentaries.
