At the IA there are more than 30 after school clubs Meeting various days of the week here is a list of them.

Anime Club

The Anime Club promotes Japanese culture through one of its better known aspects anime or animation. This club also attends a local Anime convention and fundraises to purchase new anime series’ for the school library.

Asian Student Association

The Asian Student Association explores many Asian cultures, watches Asian movies, samples Asian foods, and participates in fun activities that centered on many different Asian cultures. This club also fundraises for kids in China.

Art Club

The Art Club works on a variety of different art projects designed by its members. Students do not have to be art students to join. Other activities that members will partake in include fundraising and possible fieldtrips.

Building With Books

Building with Books (BWB) is a non-profit organization dedicated to building schools in developing nations. BWB sponsors clubs in participating schools in the United States so that students can help raise funds for building costs. BWB also sponsors a Trek for Knowledge in which some students travel to these countries to help with the building of the school. The club has a strong commitment to local community services and global education.

Black Student Association

The Black Student Association (BSA) promotes awareness of issues impacting black cultures on the local, national, and international level. Student activities include an annual play in February, informational sessions, cultural movies, and public service. This club is open to all interested students.

Culinary Club

The culinary club is a (Social) Committee of students that meet to learn and teach each other culinary skills, as well as organized fundraisers.

Chinmaya Organization For Rural Development

The Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development raises money for rural development in India.

Dance

Auditions for the IA Dance Team are held in early September and the team meets twice a week throughout the school year to choreograph and learn new routines. Styles of dance include jazz, ballet, pom, modern, hip-hop, Indian, Latin and Irish. The team participates in local competitions and performs at various school functions throughout the year.

Economics Club

Open discussion of Economics events organize, strategize and prepare for economic competitions. (Econ challenge & Fed Challenge and sometimes MCEE’s Stock Market Game)

Female Student Association

The Female Student Association (FSA) volunteers for breast cancer victims, battered women and raises money for these people. (FSA) fights common gender stereotypes andEncourage events during March – Women’s Awareness Month.

French Honors Society

French Honors Society (FHS) has monthly meetings and monthly events. Not only does the French Honors Society recognize students who have French GPA’s of at least 3.7 in our annual induction, but the club also promotes an appreciation of the French culture. Our events include a French movie night, a picnic, a French scavenger hunt, and a holiday party. This club also designs a unique sweatshirt and raise money through our annual French candy sale. To remain in the club, members must maintain the minimum GPA and attend a required number of meetings and activities.

Forensics

Mrs. Do

Joining forensics allows students to participate in individual, dual, and multiple public speaking events. Events include, but are not limited to, dramatic interpretation of poetry and prose, speech, impromptu, and storytelling. Competitions take place in the winter and spring under the Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association against the other schools in the county. Participants may move on to state and even national levels – learning poise, confidence, rhetorical skills, and seeing the talent displayed among other students of their age. Parents are encouraged to support the team by offering coaching assistance at home and judging at competitions.

Future Business Leaders Of America

FBLA is a national non-profit students led organization bringing together students interested in careers in business and business-related fields. The FBLA mission is to combine business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. The FBLA club meets every Thursday at 2:40 in room 305.

Free Thinkers Club

Free Thinkers Club is designed as a place for the agnostic and atheistic members of the school to find the like minded individuals and discuss the various ways in which lack of religion impacts the lives of ourselves and others.

German Honors Society

The German Honor Society (GHS) has monthly meetings and monthly events. Global Trade Mission

 

The Global Trade Mission (GTM) is a great opportunity for students interested in issues dealing with international business. Students participate in a 3-day event at Oakland Community College. Students interact with business leaders from the area and develop a business plan for an international market. The event culminates with a formal presentation of this plan to a panel of experts. This is not truly a club. It is an opportunity for interested students.

Indian American Student Association

The Indian American Student Association (IASA) hosts two shows every year, in November and April. These shows are designed to display Indian culture in entertaining ways. This club makes it a point to display different customs from different parts of India through cultural dances, traditional clothing, and representation of customs through skits. All the money raised from these shows goes to an Indian charity.

Jewish Student Association

 

The Jewish Student Association raises awareness of the Jewish culture and to raise to raise money for Israel.

Joe Dumars Basketball Club

 

The Joe Dumars Basketball club is an International Academy club designed to keep students physically active. The club has practices and scrimmages twice a week and will compete against other basketball teams through the Joe Dumars program.

The International Academy Key Club is the student led organization of Kiwanis International. The vision of Key Club is to develop competent, capable and caring leaders through the vehicle of service. Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world, which promotes community service, leadership development, and fellowship. The IA Key Club meets every Thursday after school in the Yearbook Room and is open to any interested students.

Middle Eastern Student Association

The Middle Eastern Student Association (MESA) educates people at the I.A. about the Middle Eastern Identity and socialism.

Mock Trial

Have you been dreaming of being a lawyer all your life? Do you object to everything? Is arguing with others just for the fun of it your idea of a perfect day?

Then Mock Trial is the place for you! Mock Trial is a group that works on learning the ins and outs of court along side of real attorneys and judges, preparing for a real trial in March. Students will act as attorneys and witnesses and compete against other schools from around Oakland county and Michigan in an actual court room run by real judges.

Model UN

Model UN Club Participates in various conferences through the year in which students represent different country delegations. Delegates debate current global issues and negotiate resolutions to solve international problems. Students are given the opportunity to represent a real nation on a real issue, in committees ranging from the Security Council to the World Health Organization.

National Honors Society

The National Honors Society recognizes students who have GPA’s of at least 3.7 in our annual induction. The National Honors Society does service projects and host opportunities for kids to receive free tutoring from the members of National Honors Society.

Pie Club

The Pie club discusses and eats pie. Break the boundaries between classes (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) Design T- shirts. Eat pie. Fundraise for Breast Cancer. Join in events with the Culinary Club and Film Club and most importantly eats pie.

Phoenix Theatre Company

Students will be inducted into the national Thespian Society in September and will continue to earn "Thespian Points" as they participate in various theatre activities - acting, technical and artistic design, technical theatre, and various forms of directing. The company aims to produce one play a year (usually at the end of first semester) and attend various theatre competitions during the spring semester if possible.They also produce student directed one Acts in February. The Phoenix Theatre Company encourages students to take leadership in all aspects of the theatre and work in collaboration with each other and the director to produce a play through cooperative effort. This club is open to all interested students.

Photography Club

The Photography Club works with photography, both digital and film, and photo- editing possibly collaborate with yearbook and newspaper; include our pictures in their publications.

Preserving Animal Welfare Society

Preserving Animal Welfare Society or PAWS help fundraise and volunteer with the humane society, fostering associations, and the zoo.

Robotics

The Robotics Team competes in various competitions throughout the year with the busiest time beginning in January. They work with professional engineers and mentors to build a robot capable of competing in a newly designed competition every year. Save our Species or SOS is a social club founded to raise awareness of endangered species and to raise funds to save the endangered species.

The Science Olympiad club competes in regional, state & national competitions which include 20 different science themed events. Events include lab particles, engineering tasks and academic tests.

Spanish Honor Society

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica for secondary schools is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and was formally organized in 1953 as the Spanish Honor Society. The purpose is to recognize high achievement in Spanish & Portuguese and to promote a continuity of interest in Hispanic Studies.Students may apply during sophomore year and must have a 3.76 GPA in Spanish and a 3.06 GPA overall. All candidates and members must attend 75% of meetings, participate in community service and maintain their GPA standing. Activities include. Activities include Spanish film, restaurants, shows and the Induction Ceremony.

Soccer Club

The Soccer Club is a way to get all of the soccer fanatics at the IA a way to compete against others in the wonderful game of soccer.
