Science Olympiad is an engaging and competitive club in which teams of 15 students compete in a variety of scientific events. There are 23 events which cover all areas of science, including life science, earth science, physical science, chemistry, and engineering. Each event is different in nature; some events, such as Chemistry Lab include hands-on labs, while others, such as Electric Vehicle, require that a team build an operating car to race at competition, yet others, such as Ecology, involve intense testing. Students must prepare and practice year round for these events and teamwork is highly emphasized. The International Academy Science Olympiad team attends three Science Olympiad Invitationals (the Clio Invitational, the Frankenmuth Invitational, and the West Ottawa Invitational) as well as the Regional Competition every year. If the team places in the top three at the Regional Competition, it also advances to the State Competition at Michigan State University.
