Volunteer Committee Descriptions
The Parents & Teachers of the International Academy is a volunteer organization that works together to support and enhance the educational growth of the IA student by organizing fundraising projects, providing financial support for classroom programs, educational enrichment, and supplemental materials and equipment for the students and school. Following are descriptions of some of the committees who carry out these projects.
Parent Reception/Staff Appreciation
There are specific committees that coordinate refreshments at a variety of student, parent, and staff activities throughout the school year. Volunteers are needed to send in baked goods, beverages, and other food items for these function. Volunteers are also needed to help with set up, serving and clean up during these daytime or evening activities.
Parent Welcome Reception: August
Conference Breaks: October
Teacher Appreciation: December and June
Brain Break (Exam snacks) : June
Welcome Back Dance (August)
The first student social get-together is a dance sponsored by the PTIA. Volunteer parents plan decorations for the ISC, chaperones, refreshments and advertising posters.
Chaperones
Parents and teachers volunteer to attend dances and other student events at the school, serve refreshments, and subtly supervise activities along with teachers and school administrators.
Student Directory
Each fall the PTIA publishes a student directory with names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of the students. Volunteers collect the information in the spring and summer and then update our data base and publish the directory in September.
Tile Sale
The PTIA sponsors the sale of decorative wall tiles to honor students, teachers and community members who have contributed to the school. These tiles are displayed on the wall outside the ISC. Volunteers organize the sale and installation of the wall tiles.
IA Olympics
School spirit is encouraged at a one-day inter-school competition each fall. Parent volunteers work with teachers to organize games, refreshments, a parade, "car" building and art competitions. This is a fun event to participate in and a good way to meet parents early in the year.
