About the PTIA East

The PTIA East is a volunteer organization of parents and teachers at the IA who work together to support and enhance the educational growth of the IA students by providing financial support for classroom programs, educational enrichment, parent information supplemental materials and equipment for the classroom, and student social activities.  The PTIA meets once a month on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the IA East Media Center.  Each meeting will have a specific topic  (i.e. "Surviving the IA", College Planning, Enrichments, Counselor Corner, ), include a principal's report and a report from pertinent committee chairpersons.  All parents are urged to participate in the PTIA by attending the monthly meetings and by volunteering to serve on committees.  Participation in the PTIA is an excellent way to meet other parents at the IA, stay involved in your teen's educational and social life and make new friends.  For more information, feel free to contact your PTIA Leadership Team Members.

Following are descriptions of the committees established to support IA East:

Welcome Back Dance

In the month of August, this social get-together is a dance sponsored by the PTIA. Volunteer parents plan the event during the summer and execute the event before the end of the month.

Newsletter

The PTIA publishes the monthly newsletter to provide a timely reminder of events and activities at IA East. Volunteers help solicit input from faculty, teacher leader, principal, students and parents to highlight the successes, programs, etc. of the IA East Community. Committee is responsible to create, publish and mail the Newsletter each month.

Deadlines: Newsletter deadlines are the 20th of the month (usually August-April). The Newsletter will be posted on iatoday.org on the first of the month (usually September-May).

Volunteers/Chaperones

Volunteers and Chaperones are needed for various events to supervise activities and support IA East events. Sign up sheets and communications will be sent to solicit volunteers.

Student Directory

Each fall the PTIA publishes a student directory as a fundraiser. Volunteers collect the student information forms; update the student directory database, complete directory template to provide to our printer. Volunteers also distribute the directory during Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Tile Sale (TBD)

The PTIA East is anticipating the opportunity to continue a tradition - to sell decorative tiles to honor students, teachers, community memebers, etc. who have contributed to IA East.  These tiles are generally on display in a designated area of the school.  We will know more int he coming year as the inaugural tile sale will be in the 2011-12 school year celebrating our first graduating class!

IA Olympics

IA East students compete for the IA East Olympic title in a variety of sports that challenge the mind, body, and even their taste buds. This day is a culmination of scores from various activities that students will participate in including a variety of individual and team events. Spirit Week builds up to the IA Olympics.

Half Day Activities

Throughout the school year there a half days where volunteers can make arrangements to provide alternative activities until the end of a normal school day.  Examples of what we have done in the past include: Troy Bowling event, movies/pizza at the school.  There are a number of arrangements that need to be made depending on the activity such as a permission slip, arranging transportation, collecting monies, etc.  We can assist - these have been well received.

SCRIP'S Program

A vital part of our fundraising initiatives are the sales of gift cards where the PTIA receives a percentage of the card sale.  Consider purchasing these through the PTIA for a gift or personal use.

Grade Representatives

Each class is in need of a grade representative who works with the class sponsor to do fundraising activities which go to support a class prom, senior all night party, etc.  they provide an update/report on activities and serve as a liaison to the PTIA.
