Okma Weekly Message March 26, 2021
Greetings IA Community!
We are off for Spring Break! We hope you stay home and stay safe this break - but if you do venture out, be careful and if your family travels internationally, your child must quarantine (attend classes virtually) for 7 days which begins the day that they return home from travel.
This school year sure has flown by and we suppose that is a good thing given the challenges we have faced. The sad part is that soon our seniors will be gone. This has been such an outstanding class of students and we are feeling a little cheated this year. No doubt they have much greater things on the horizon, but we hope they carry a little bit of our love and admiration along with them. April 23 is their last day of classes as they will be spending the following weeks prepping for their IB exams.
The online calendar dates have been filled in for next year and the graphic calendar is posted below for your planning purposes.
Have a safe, healthy and relaxing break - see you April 5!
Today is the last day to support buildOn by donating via this link. Check out the items staff have donated.
Vivian Yee place in the top 10 of the Regeneron Science Talent Search Competition
Okma senior, Vivian Yee, 17, of Beverly Hills, Michigan received a $50,000 award for research on inequalities in COVID-19 incidence and outcomes in the counties of New York City. By modelling rates of transmission, recovery and death alongside housing, education and employment status, she found higher rates of transmission and death in more socially vulnerable communities. Her findings, which are included in a Consensus Memorandum accepted by the Congressional Coronavirus Task Force, may help guide future policies and initiatives for public health.
