Okma Weekly Message September 11, 2020
Greetings IA Community,
We are leaving many previous reminders below as we are still in the process of welcoming new students and families to the IA.
A very important new item that students need to pay immediate attention to is to establish a BHS Zoom account with their BHS Gmail.
Beginning Monday, all students will be required to access their Zoom session with the BHS Zoom account only. Personal Zoom accounts will not be admitted to Zoom sessions. The directions are linked below.
STEP 1 is for establishing BHS Zoom account.
If your personal Zoom account was already with a BH email address, you may get an email to confirm... pay attention to that step as that confirmation link is only good temporarily.
STEP 2 is for configuring the APP if you used the desktop or mobile app. Pay attention to the sign in with SSO details of this step.
If you have trouble or the APP still doesn't work, uninstall and re-install the APP.
BH ZOOM Step 2 (for desktop app)
Attendance protocols for students
If a student is going to be absent, a parent/guardian must call in the absence to the attendance office.
The attendance secretary will email the student and teacher when a student must leave class early.
Students are expected to maintain their attendance during Zoom breakout sessions. Their camera should remain on unless there is an arrangement that has been made with the teacher.
Welcome Back Night
Teachers have recorded a "Welcome" presentation for each course. These presentations are posted on Canvas.
You can use your Canvas login and then click on each of your student’s courses to view the videos which will detail course expectations
If you have not had a chance to check it out yet, you still can. Teachers will keep the recorded presentations up one more week.
Parent/Guardian Canvas Login Information
Login with MiStar ID: P200xxxxx ---DON'T FORGET THE PRECEDING P
Enter your password (please note - your MISTAR password MUST be at least 9 characters in order to sync with CANVAS)
if you have previously changed your password to less than 9 characters, please update it at once to include at least 9. The accounts must then re-sync overnight for your CANVAS account creation to be successful.
You should now have access to your student’s courses
Parents who need their log in info can retrieve it by going tohttps://webconnect.bloomfield.org/Zangle/ParentPortal/
and choosing the link below the input box - the Pin and Password - you will be prompted to input the same email address you have on file in the Student Information System (the same email to which you are receiving this message ).
Check out the Community-Families section on iatoday.org for more CANVAS parent information as well as a video detailing how to enable the Canvas Parent mobile app.
As of today*, students are scheduled to take state required testing in the building. We will communicate details once we have information on the specific arrangements.

Parent/Guardian Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held virtually. Parents/guardians will receive sign-up information as we near these dates.
Parents, be sure to check out our Families page on the School Life tab of iatoday.org There you will find answers to many of your technology related questions including how to get the QR mobile login for the CANVAS app for your phone.
Students have been advised to use this form to report issues as completely as possible since the occasional email that states " I couldn't access..." without any further info as to what or where is not the most efficient method to get issues resolved (LOL). So, if your student has trouble, remind them of this form. Parents can report issues there too. It can also be found on our Quick Links for Students page under the School Life tab of our website.
Canvas and Google Docs are integrated and should sync. There have been issues when students are logged in to a personal Google Account and the syncing gets confused. Here is the remedy we have found:
The log in issue with Google on Canvas is a known issue.
Please read through some of these remedies.
GOOGLE DOCS AUTHORIZATION ISSUES
In particular, students have found that logging completely out of GMAIL as well as Chrome and turning off sync has resolved the issue.
You then have to re-authorize.
Parents may be receiving notifications of assignments. If the assignment is a google doc, parents will not have access. Parents can customize their notification settings in their CANVAS account by clicking on notifications. This is highly recommended.

If your child need help with classwork or just want someone to talk to, you can fill out this Google Form to request Helping Hands Virtual Tutoring.
Is your child looking to get volunteer hours or just to give back to the community? They can use this Google Form to sign up to be a Helping Hands Virtual Tutor. As a tutor, they will be able to help PreK-12 grade students across the country access the educational support they need.
