Okma Weekly Message September 4, 2020
Attendance protocols for students
If a student is going to be absent, a parent/guardian must call in the absence to the attendance office.
The attendance secretary will email the student and teacher when a student must leave class early.
Students are expected to maintain their attendance during Zoom breakout sessions. Their camera should remain on unless there is an arrangement that has been made with the teacher.
Welcome Back Night
Teachers have recorded a "Welcome" presentation for each course. These presentations are posted on Canvas.
You can use your Canvas login and then click on each of your student’s courses to view the videos which will detail course expectations
If you have not had a chance to check it out yet, you still can. Teachers will keep the recorded presentations up one more week.

Parent/Guardian Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held virtually. Parents/guardians will receive sign-up information as we near these dates.
Parents, be sure to check out our Families page on the School Life tab of iatoday.org There you will find answers to many of your technology related questions including how to get the QR mobile login for the CANVAS app for your phone.
Students have been advised to use this form to report issues as completely as possible since the occasional email that states " I couldn't access..." without any further info as to what or where is not the most efficient method to get issues resolved (LOL). So, if your student has trouble, remind them of this form. Parents can report issues there too. It can also be found on our Quick Links for Students page under the School Life tab of our website.
Canvas and Google Docs are integrated and should sync. There have been issues when students are logged in to a personal Google Account and the syncing gets confused. Here is the remedy we have found:
The log in issue with Google on Canvas is a known issue.
Please read through some of these remedies.
GOOGLE DOCS AUTHORIZATION ISSUES
In particular, students have found that logging completely out of GMAIL as well as Chrome and turning off sync has resolved the issue.
You then have to re-authorize.

Robotics Team 469 Meeting and Application News
As we all navigate these unprecedented times the mentor team has been making plans for an unprecedented robotics year. We have been working hard to make plans to keep kids both safe and engaged in STEM and our robotics family.
Our normal fall season, OCCRA, has been postponed for the 2020 season, but the mentor team has come up with a plan to engage and teach the kids everything we would normally go over in the fall along with working on some new stuff that we have always wanted to do. We are also making arrangements and plans to keep the kids healthy and safe.
Currently, we are planning on splitting the team up into pods of 10 students and mentors per pod and each pod will have a scheduled day(s) to be at the shop. Masks will be required in the shop, temps will be taken when entering the shop, and hand sanitizer will around the shop. After about a month or so in one pod, we will take a week off from any in-person shop meetings(we will still have on-line meetings) and then mix up the pods so that students can get to know more of their teammates and other mentors on the team. We will go over this and more at the parent meeting.
We will be having a
Please only have 1 computer logged into the meeting as it will only allow 100.
We are looking forward to another robotics season!!
