Free Meals for All Fall 2025 UPDATE

We are pleased to share with our community that, at the last minute, state legislators have provided temporary funding to keep the government open through October 8. As you are likely aware, Michigan law requires a balanced budget to be passed by October 1, and lawmakers continue working to finalize the state budget for the current fiscal year.

This news continues to provide us confidence that a budget will be passed by the middle of next week.

While full details of the budget framework are not yet available, this tentative framework gives us confidence that all Michigan students will continue to have access to free meals.

As we receive updates from the state regarding the status of the program, we will keep you informed. In the meantime, we strongly encourage families who believe they may qualify for free or reduced-price meals to complete an Education Benefit Form during registration or as soon as possible. This helps ensure continued access to meals if statewide funding changes. If anyone in your household has received a letter of direct certification stating that they qualify for free or reduced price meals, there is no need to fill out the Education Benefit form.

If you have questions or concerns about the future of the Michigan School Meals program, please consider contacting your state representative. Bloomfield Hills Schools supports this program and we encourage your advocacy to ensure it remains a budget priority of the state.
