The IA-West offers two evenings sessions for parents and students prior to the application deadline to hear an overview of the IA program. The Informational meeting dates are posted on the website and the enrollment brochure.

The application for the next school year will open on November 1.  It will be available on a link on the right side of this page.   Below find some basic information about applying to the International Academy-West Campus (IA-West) in White Lake.

Student must currently be in 8th grade.
Families must be either an established resident or the student currently attends as a School of Choice in one of the Consortium Districts: Huron Valley Schools or South Lyon Schools. OR 
To apply as In-County School of Choice, students must currently have established legal residence or attend as School of Choice in the following districts:
Brandon,
Clarenceville
Clarkston
Farmington
Ferndale
Hazel Park
Holly
Huron Valley
Lamphere
Madison
Novi
Oak Park
Oxford
Pontiac
Southfield
Walled Lake
OR
To apply as Out-Of-County School of Choice, residency must be established in the following counties: Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Wayne or Washtenaw.
Families must submit an application form electronically by the deadline.  Families will be asked to upload the most current 8th grade report card and most recent standardized test results.  The name and email of the person submitting a recommendation will also be required.
Pay the application fee of $20 through Pay Schools.

If necessary, there will be a lottery for open seats.  This will take place in February and will be announced to all applicants.  Families do not need to be present for the lottery.
How does the lottery work? After the IA has received all the applications, we submit a database to each district. The respective district then holds a public lottery. Every student that submitted an application will receive a number after his/her name is drawn.

All applicants take the mandatory placement assessment. Dates are located in the enrollment brochure. Testing accommodations for students with disabilities are provided as specified in the IEP or 504 Plan. If you need testing accommodations please indicate this on the application.  Students that do not take the placement test will be removed from the lottery list or wait list.

The IA gives three (3) opportunities: in February, the end of May, and the end of July.
 

The IA maintains a waitlist and as seats become available we automatically call the next person on the list to invite them to enroll. We maintain these lists until the end of the first semester in January.

Continuity of Curriculum students must still demonstrate competency on the placement test and qualify as a Continuity of Curriculum student. We recommend an individual meeting with IA principal, Lynne Gibson, for all Continuity of Curriculum students. IB diploma can be accepted in lieu of national exams: GCSE, Abitur of Germany, Bac. Of France. Policies vary by country, state, and university. IB schools generally accept transfers in order to assist the student.

All students, including students with disabilities are welcomed to apply for admission at the International Academy.  The International Academy will ensure, in collaboration with the students’ home school district, that students with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). 

If the Student is from the Lakeland High School attendance area, they have the opportunity to take the bus to school in the morning. Since IA follows a different daily schedule, after school busing is not a possibility. For all other students, carpool lists are made available for parents and students to make arrangements for transportation.

Yes. Students are eligible to participate in athletics at their home consortium district high school. Huron Valley Schools of choice students are eligible to participate in athletics at one of the Huron Valley High Schools according to MHSAA eligibility guidelines. A variety of student clubs exist at IA West. Science Olympiad , Model UN, Future Problem Solvers, and Robotics are just a few examples.
